More cards have been added and I've made a Reupdate List link since older cards have been updated. The link below should also allow you to update the set txt files without having to update the entire plugin again.

Reupdate Link
http://shadow.hewitt.gb.com/SSBBC/reupdatelist.txt

Also the plugin now contains 276 cards.

Not so sure if multi-row posting is allowed, but I've updated the plugin with a Pokemon set now (As well as new Promo cards), bringing the total number of cards from 282 to 433.

Nice to see a SSB CCG in the works.  It looks good and very true to the video game series.  I just read the rules and looked over many of the cards and most of it looks good except for one concept...Flipping a coin.

[puts CCG designer hat on]  The way I see it games should have a proper balance of chance/skill.  Just by nature of card games when having a shuffled deck there already is an element of chance created, and to me seems to be the right amount of chance vs skill ratio (little chance, mostly skill).  A CCG can modify this by having cards that allow you to look through your deck and retrieve cards, or even rules that allow this.  This makes for less chance and more skill.  Then the other extreme is when a card says "roll dice" or "flip a coin" to the outcome.  This adds more chance to the game.

Personally I think the balance is fine if most cards leave these modifiers alone.  But when a game uses one of these concepts too heavily then the chance/skill balance is thrown too far off IMO.

[back to SSB] While I haven't played SSB yet, and I probably will with a friend, it seems like it might be too unbalance in this regard.  When I finally draw a great card I have been waiting turn after turn for, I want to be able to know I can use it the way it's text states, and if that card gets denied, it's because an opponent denied it and not a coin.  IDK if the coin flipping is used to represent the defensive shield the video game has, but if so I would implement that and a more predictable method.

Thanks, glad you liked it. Although it was never intended to mimic the games but rather the Pokemon TCG (Which is why it still has coin flips).

I could remove coin flips entirely but that would come at the cost of a lower variety of attacks (E.g with coin flips, you can either have an attack that always Poisons but is far weaker, or you can have a stronger attack that only Poisons some of the time). I usually try my best to provide a variety of different Smashers and attacks, Smashers that have more reliable attacks but are weaker, or Smashers that have less reliable attacks but are stronger.

Funny thing I once made an alternative Smash cards series that relied more on statistics (It still had coin flips but they were far less used in comparison to this Smash cards series) and contained absolutely no card drawing since you started with your entire deck in your hand. But it has less priority over this one so not many cards have been made for it (I haven't even made a plugin for it either).

(If you're interested in seeing the Mini Smash Bros. card series, here's a link showing the Mini Smash cards I've made so far: http://s1.zetaboards.com/Crimson_Castle/single/?p=446231&t=4014255)

Also I've updated the main plugin with 31 new cards, bumping the total up to 464.

The only thing I have against coinflips is that the only correct way to balance the mechanic is the way you did. Cards with flips are stronger, those without are weaker, but more reliable. In the ccg world, consistency is everything as far as high-tier play goes. Thus, I feel like most of the time the better decks will feature fewer and fewer cards with coinflips. So its almost like saying "you can either play casually and use a bunch of these cards that there are way more of, or you can play more competitively and select from a much smaller card pool." I guess this could be argued of all ccgs, though.
Also I hate the act of a flipping a coin irl, but as this is an online game that matters a lot less.

... Okay dunno what was up with the post mimicing one of my previous posts above, but anyways I've now updated the plugin with the first third party set (You can now play with various Sega characters) and the card total is now 586.

The previous links don't work anymore, but I've now changed them with new links, as well as updating the plugin itself with the Veterans set, and bringing the card total to 691 (Damn only 9 away from 700 XD).

It's been a while, but now the plugin is updated with the Pokemon Neo set, along with more Promo cards bringing the total up to 841.

I've also tweaked the plugin some to help make it better (Such as adding more Zones). In the next update I hope to utilise Lackey's booster pack feature.

Hello! I opened a topic about your Mini Smash Bros because I ddin't remember having seen in here. I think it has a lot of potential as a game! Please make some other cards :-)

I'm glad to see someone's interested in the Mini Smash Bros card series, I'd be happy to make more cards for that series. Although how soon I'll be able to make the new cards I don't know yet, because I'm also working on a Smash Bros wargame (Plus I have Uni work to worry about as well).

Sneaky bump, the plugin now contains 949 cards.

Well that's not the only thing. The biggest thing about this new update is that the plugin now contains the booster pack feature.

Pretty awesome version of Pok?mon to be honest, and I can't wait for the next set of cards to be released. Seriously, very good work, and the card art for most of the cards is frankly very impressive sir. Keep up the good work!  ;D

Would be cool to see a few more Zelda themed Smashers or Assists, like the Skull Kid from Majora's Mask or a few more things from the Windwaker. Looking forward to the Capcom set in particular. Any chance we'll see a few Resident Evil characters?  ;)

XD Cheers. I also take requests for Promo cards so I can make a few Legend of Zelda promo cards if you would like to see that (and yes Skull Kid will be one of them).

For the Capcom set yes there will definately be some Resident Evil Smashers.

Edit: Here go, Skull Kid. I also plan on making an FS card for him too.

Awesome!  ;D

The Skull Kid is one of my favorite Zelda villains, just because you would never expect him to be much of a villain :P

Will the FS involve the moon? I think it should. Just make sure it uses a lot of Energy.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros. Battle Cards Plugin
Post by: Ajezla on July 04, 2012, 05:28:20 PM
Yeah, that would be good and would make sense as an attack. After all, the moon is going to crash because the Skull Kid wants it. Maybe even have a turn counter or something. Like: "Moon Crash: 'whatever energy cost': you have 'so many turns' to KO Skull Kid FS. If not you lose the game." It would have to be a horrendous energy cost, like 10 or something like that. The FS of the Skull Kid would have to have a reasonable amount of HP as well, so he could be KO'd before the end of the countdown. Would make things interesting at least :D

Well, I was thinking of something along the line of "Discard all Energy cards attached to Skull Kid FS. The Defending Smasher and 2 of your opponent's Benched Smashers are knocked out." But that works too.

Beating Shadowmaster to the punch a bit. The new set Konami Knights is now available, plus 30 new cards added to the promo series pool. For those of us that love the game, this is a happy day indeed!  :-*

Updated with new Promo cards (Around 36 I think), plus over 100 updates to previous cards.

Also moved the location of the cards themselves, but this shouldn't affect anyone (I've tried it and the cards download much faster now).

Updated the plugin with over 50 new cards (bringing the total to 1173) and over 70 fixes to previous cards.

Updated the plugin with the Dual Elemental Clash set, with over 40 new cards and bringing the total up to 1276.

While I have done some card fixes with this update, I am going to be releasing more smaller updates containing card fixes and a couple of new Promo cards over the next couple of months.

It's been a long while since I've posted in this topic. But I want to let everyone know I've still been updating the plugin. It now contains many more new sets and over 1600 cards total. Many fixes have also been made to previous cards.

However, while I may still update existing cards from time to time I will no longer be making anymore new cards. It gets to a point where making more and more cards won't really do a lot. So you may not hear from me again for a long while unless if I do any major updates.

I'm confused now... I thought that this Smash Bros game was just a remnant of when I made one and had it on lackey here, but it turns out it's its own, separate game that uses Pokemon's ruleset.

Interesting, at least... I might have to look into this more.

do you have an .mse (magic set editor)template that we can use to easily create our cards?not everyone is a photoshop genius unfortunately..

Afraid not, and I don't have any experience with creating templates for Magic Set Editor so it might take me a while to create them.
