Title: How to report people for banning...
Post by: Trevor on December 02, 2010, 11:35:50 AM
When someone says stuff in the server that you think is so severe that it requires banning, post in this thread, or a PM to me, the following:

The time things were said.
The person who said them.
What was said that warrants banning.

Lackey now records all things said in the log, and all IPs of those who say them. Even if someone tries to change their name, I will still be able to trace their IP. No one can claim they were being impersonated any more. So if someone is being extremely offensive, that person can be dealt with ex post facto.

I will post a set of rules for what is and is not appropriate when I get more time. Until then, the golden rule is: Don't be a douchebag. Follow that rule and you won't get banned.

Also remember that you can add people to your ignore list. Just select their name, and click the ignore button and you won't see their comments.

To help you report people you think need reporting, you can click the "Dump log to file" button which will save everything in the server chat to a file at secure/ServerChatLogDump.txt. It includes time stamps. You can open it up, and delete the irrelevant parts. Send the evidence of bannable conduct to trevor@lackeyccg.com I will look at your time stamps, and be able to confirm who said what and take the appropriate course of action.

Just a reminder, the following is unacceptable behavior:

Refusing to leave a game, or rejoining a game when you have been told to leave.
Changing your name or doing anything else to circumvent the ignore ability.

You can get banned for this sort of harassment.

Hello, Trevor. I was playing a nice game of EDH on lackey when along came a guy who used the name "MIKE." I've seen him before and I knew that he only existed to mess up games. This time was no different, he took half of my deck and put it into my graveyard and did the same thing to another player. Then we had a short little battle where we had to continuously kick him out of the seat, problem was that he kept kicking us out of our seats too. Mike told me that he had just came back from his 5th ban. However, this guy clearly only comes onto lackey to traumatized Magic players by calling them quote "faggot mexicans" for playing a game that he considers "gay". I suggest that he banned, permanently this time. Please get back to me on this, Trevor. I am really sick of this guy. Thank you for reading.

That douche goes by MIKE, Spin, Trypio, Hola mang, Cocco Lupia, Holy C, doc, Reg, Jamz, Kegg, and who knows else.

I will ban him again, but each time he changes his IP, I need to ban him again. Since everyone isn't required to use a login/password, there is little I can do besides ban a person based on an IP, and if they are able to change it, there isn't much that can be done, without imposing a bunch of annoying stuff on everyone.

Ok, thank you, Trevor. It is a little immature to change your IP every time you get banned just so you can keep annoying people. I wish he'd just get a life and leave people alone. I appreciate your concern.  :)

Today someone named #1 with a coke was spamming and insulting players. A player named Ninjor may have also been getting spammed via PM.

I don't know whether or not he has been reported before or anything, but he just seems like he's not the kind of player we want to have on the server.

@Trevor: why not make it so you need to log in as that would stop the spammers and i do note that doing it that way will take time. a way i think it could work is have it so that your forum account the what you use to log in to play lackey online. thats just my thought.

If it's really bad, as I understand it, you can ban his specific local server (a relatively small area), which I think is the next to last number in the line separated by the period. He can't circumvent that unless he goes to a connection outside the server area. It would block others in his area, but if he is not in a densely populated area, that shouldn't be a problem.

There is a guy i've been seeing around named bednus. He's constantly fighting with people in the main server chat, basically being a standard e-badass.

He honestly reminds me a bit of Sei. I'm mostly just posting this here as a "keep an eye out" for him type of deal, but every day he's doing the same old same old.

Normally I just tell people that I'm going to report them so that they'll stop being assholes, but today my opponent decided to keep going. He got upset that he was wrong on a ruling, and when I left the game he decided to attack me in the main chatroom. This isn't the type of person that I want on Lackey, and I'm sure that others would agree. The incident occurred at 2:50 PM EST on November 16.

I've got a kid in my room named Golem who refuses to play by the rules of Magic and just keeps spamming the chat. I've asked him to leave multiple times, but he didn't. I just wanted to play a game, and he just wanted to annoy me.

I've got someone in my room name Gowen. He joined my game, asked to play Legacy, then proceded to keep redrawing his hand until he had his combo. He kept drawing 7 over and over, and i asked him to leave. He didn't. Instead he played out the game, and even when I countered his combo, he kept telling me that he won and how great his deck is and all that. I kept asking him to leave, and he never did. If other players have problems with this IP, ban it.

hi i was hosting a standard game and i started playing some one by the name of "Gray Fox" and he was playing a heartless summoning deck i was using a mono green deck that i was testing for my friend, and which by the way my friend built the deck not me and he had 2 naturalize main boarded and when gray fox dropped his heartless summoning, i used naturalize and he got all crazy and started swearing at me accusing me of being some person named patrick, which ive never gone by that name on lackey

then he left my room and decided to start PMing me rude comments accusing me further that I'm some guy named patrick
i dunno what his deal is but if anyone else reads this who plays standard, dont play him, he's not worth the trouble

Hey,

I just want to report someone named Tron. He joined a game I made today around 7:25, hit me with a homophobic insult and left, troll-style. I'm not really sure if there's any way to investigate this since it was in a game-room, not the server. Let me know if other info is required. This sort of occurrence is really discouraging. :(

I was in the middle of an EDH game when a user by the name of Messi joined and started moving cards on the main board into other zones like the graveyard and what not.

Is there a way to kick people from a room via command? Something like /Kick <user> or something?  I've looked around and wasn't able to find anything.

I was on today, and I was just looking for some friendly standard games. I joined someone named badger47's game and at first he was normal. I had first played him with a deck I handbuilt around a week ago. he told me "your deck sucks and would never win anything so why waste someone's time trolling on here and whacking off to it". He then ragequit and called me some names. This week he was acting normal until around the middle of the game. I was playing a well-known deck instead of my own and this time, he said "you're just auto-piloting a stupid netdeck that's getting old". He then proceeded to call me various names again. The first time is excusable because it did just happen once, but when it happens twice and once it was because of my own deck that "never wins anything so why waste anyone's time" and then You're autopiloting one of the best decks, it kind of defeats the purpose of the game. Calling people names is just immature as well.

You shouldn't have played with him after the first time in my opinion. Being a jerk is not intrinsically a bannable offense because it is subjective and hard to enforce.
If he joins one of your games, ask him to leave. If he refuses, send me a log of that and I will ban him.

Why not just give the person who hosts a room the ability to kick/ban someone just from his one room ? o-o. Then there wouldn't really be a need for you to continually keep banning people, and everyone else that hosts a game can just deal with the problems on their own. Just a thought.

Not sure if this is where my complaint should go, but there's a guy on Lackey who is making a game out of crashing the server. Repeatedly logs in with some silly variation of "server crasher" like this week's "server killer" and "Crash?" and proceeds to ask how many times we would like the server to go down. After about 10 or so times of forcing everyone to disconnect, he gets bored and leaves. Any way to deal with this dude? Third time this month this crap happened.

Some guy by the name of DELVER has been in and out of my games for over a couple months now and every time ( all of the 4 or so times) we have played he calls me some slur or a queer whenever he starts to lose. Now you may be wondering "then why dont you tell him to get out of your game before you played.
Honestly i just forget about him because its just not that big a deal. i only remeber the last 4 times because i just got done dealing with him. you know what I mean.
After he calls me a queer, he quits and says mean shit about me on the public server. I haven't said anything up to this point because I just didn't consider him worth the time it would take to type this up but i've seriously had it with this guy.
Today I asked him to leave my game after he was an asshole and he refused to leave as per usual. he called me an austistic queer and then left the game at 18:49:06. before that he said such classy shit as "cool story bro" when I said I was going to report him if he didn't leave. then in the game server chat he said that his BUG Aggro brew crushed my Esper netdeck 18:51:33 when in actuality we had only played one game and I had beaten him. Also at a certain point in the game he was messing with my life total 18:47:31.
How do I post the screenshots i have because I cant figure it out it says insert picture and it doesn't insert it.
Thanks Trevor.

Hello again Trevor,
Today some guy named Gama (name spelled exactly like that) joined my game and refused to leave after I asked him 4 times to leave. thne he asked me to tell him in spanish to leave even though we had been typing in English the entire time.
the time was starting at 20:52:18 AND IT ENDED at 21:00:34
he then asked me to explain how you can report people on lackey and if there were admins.
So this brings up a question.
Can there please be admins?

Trevor I've heard many users claim that they can crash the server. Today a user named Grit joined our game, and I booted him and removed a seat because we were mid game, and yesterday he was a real jerk to us doing things like restarting games and moving cards around.

15:52:40 [PST] Grit: perhaps I should close your game for being so rude

I called him out on the server and he said:

15:59:32 Grit: Trevor understands something you boys don't
- He can't ban every proxy service on the internet
- I win.
- I won two years ago.

Then he said he'd crash the server in 30 seconds, and it crashed. He then proceeded to crash the server constantly.

How on earth is there a bug that allows users to crash the server? This is a huge problem particularly since the trolls have figured out how to do it. I've heard other users claim to know how to shut down games too.

The how is rather simple. He's found a bug and not reported it, thus it hasn't been fixed. It's rather difficult for Trevor to fix problems when he doesn't know about them, which is why it's important for people to report bugs when they find em.

I banned Arkator and Soylent Green.
Update on Soylent Green:
After I banned him, he IMed me on AIM. Here is that conversation:
QuoteSoylent Green:
Hey Trevor this is Soylent Green. I apologize greatly for having crashed the server tonight. I got caught up in what was going on. I was frustrated cause I knew Arkator was Lucky and was doing everything so I signed on as Arkator to try and get him to switch back. When I thought he was gonna switch to Soylent Green and, as dumb as it seems now, do something as me to get me banned, I hit the button to reset the server and take my name back. I hope you can see it in your heart to forgive and unban me, I've never crashed the server before and was trying to get everything to stop. If not I understand. Thanks.
Trevor Agnitti:
Make a poll on the forum and plea your case.
if you were in my position, I think you'd ban that behaviour too
On 4/14/13, you also logged in as KevTheLar
   on 4/16, LefDeapord
   Chroma Lisa on 4/24
Soylent Green:
yeah I change names all the time, It's ok though I understand
again I apologize, I was part of the porblem
Trevor Agnitti:
sorry, but changing names often is a huge red flag for bad behaviour
If I go through the chat logs, would I find any harassing behaviour on your part?
Soylent Green:
   probably here and there
   I've played a long time
   I won't lie I've had my moments
Trevor Agnitti:
if you were in my position, what would you do?
Soylent Green:
probably keep me banned, I said I understand
thanks for the service so far man, you do a lot for the community
I post this to let people know that everything is logged, and if I investigate, I can see who logs on as who, when, and from what IP. I want to remind people that changing your login name is a huge red flag for bad behavior. If you have to use a different name for some reason, do something like "MyName" and "MyName2". That is to say, something that isn't an attempt to mask your identity. I don't have a specific rule against changing your name, but if you do so, you are far more likely to look like an abuser of the system when I investigate the logs.

I really don't like having to act as a nanny. Despite the long time since a last official release, I have not been idle and I'd really prefer to spend my time coding.

I'm glad you were able to figure out how these people were crashing the server.

But I think my IP got banned along with Grit's. When Grit was crashing the server, I changed my name to Grit to try to find out what other aliases he'd use next. Since he said he'd just use a new proxy server if you banned him, I wanted to know his other names so I could avoid interacting with him in the future. He'd then announce "I WIN" as the new user, restart the server, and I'd try to block that name before they could log back on with it to see what name they use next.

Reading this thread, I can see that you consider name changing to be a huge red flag. And honestly if I wasn't so angry at this user I wouldn't have bothered trying to get more of their aliases. But I think my intent is pretty clear. If I had any ill-intent, it wouldn't make sense to come on here to report Grit.

Would it be possible to un-ban my IP? I've been an avid Lackey player for years, and I consider myself to be a positive member of the community. I believe my logs clearly show I'm a sincere user. And you can be sure I'll never change my login name again like that. Being banned a couple days has more than taught me my lesson there.

It'll be up to Trevor to unban you or not. A note in general, not just for Melkor but for anybody really, if somebody's causing trouble in the game then hop on here and send a PM to Trevor or myself. I can't speak for Trevor but PM's sent to me here, go directly to my phone so unless I'm out of the house/shop or asleep I can hop on fairly quick. Don't try to fight these idiots, it's a losing battle as it only provides them with the attention they're so desperately seeking.

If the person is actively causing trouble and we can see em in the act then we can ban them on the spot. However if it's something that happened and the trouble maker has moved on then it'll require Trevor to go through the log files. In that case be sure to make a note of the date & time and username/usernames involved. That will assist in narrowing down where Trevor has to look.

Whaaat? I was wondering why I couldn't connect to the server. I know Melkor- he's an all right guy, and we've had a number of enjoyable matches, but I believe he must have been fooled by some sort of rude doppelganger. I am nothing if not chivalrous on Lackey, and I don't like this defamation! I request unbanishment. I wasn't happy about all the crashing that was happening way back when either, and I certainly am not behind any part of it.

Edit: Oh, it seems the server's just been down for a while. I hadn't tried in a few weeks, after all, so I thought maybe this was the reason. But I suppose it stands to reason that if that faker were banned by IP I would still be able to connect, so yeah. Still, I'm kind of hurt that Melkor mistook that chump for the real Grit! Hmph.

lol @ Grit's reply.

Could it possibly be any more unconvincing?

Oh, Rain.

Anyway, I have someone to report. Tonight this guy called King Zombie was kind of making a mess of things in a Commander game. He first raised my suspicions when he played with an illegal deck and wouldn't respond to anything anyone said. We let him play with it nonetheless, and it was going OK until he disconnected for whatever reason. Since he wasn't adding much, we continued on without him, and 5 or 7 minutes later, he joined back and abruptly proceeded to screw everything up- dumping libraries into graveyards, clearing the field, the whole shebang. Well, in the end we had our host make a new password-protected game, since the guy kept sitting down when his seat was vacated, making the seat unremovable. If you'd do anything about him, I'm sure we'd all be grateful.

I had a very bad experience early this morning when a player named "KILL" Joined my lobby. The game started fairly normal. He complained a little bit, then started getting mad at me because he was losing, and then finally attempted to cheat. So I asked him to leave and removed him from his seat. Thats when he began with vulgar language such as telling me I wanted to S his D among other things. Sexual harrassment type offences, before he finally left. Quite frustrating really.

Today some guy named Dexter joined my game and after i bolted 2 of his goblin guides he called me a "faggot" 6 or 7 times and he would not stop berating me in the server chat calling me a faggot and a ragequitter even though i had not even quit the game we were playing. from 22 25 13 where i said huh after he called me lucky until 22 35 46 he was constantly throwing harassments and insults at me
now i did respond rather immaturely but he still was the instigator.
I would like it if you could ban him please.

Hey Trev,

Just wanted to ask if there is a way to argue being temporarily banned?  StAislez just now he told me to shut up then said he was going to report me for not leaving his game, because I pointed out a rule another player was unaware of.  The other players were fine with me and he just kept dropping the F' bomb on me.  I can send the log, but I was just curious about spectating games and your feelings on it.

Thanks!

I don't want to have to be a nanny. Some people in this world are just jerks, and people need to learn to handle jerks. I'm adding new tools to let people ignore people more effectively and let them no longer join your games. I'm adding this in the next version which should be out very soon.

I don't want to get involved with server wide bans unless behavior is extreme.

Hey Trev, wanted to fill in a report for a guy called "jake" who refused to leave the server. Today, about 10 minutes ago, he and Manny (another player) were playing, when Manny dropped a spell that basically made jake lose, at which point jake says "I refuse to play with that card". I, then, ask him to leave (me being the server host) and he refuses to, returning to his seat each time I kick him. I got screenshots of the log in case you need them.
Thanks for the great work with Lackey!

Today, The Staticaster was hosting a game and one of the players under the name Billy went way overboard with how things should be. he cast a spell at SeriosSkies who did mess up at first in response of what was to be done. he then corrected himself.

because Serios didn't do things exactly how billy thinks they should be done he got mad, while everyone else was happy with what happened. Afterwards he then went and scooped Serios off the field, then I don't know who it was at, but I quote, "I'll show up on your porch and slit your throat."

I deal with alot of drama on the server and in games at times, but when someone wishes to threaten possible murder that is taking things too far. After he did that he proceeded to spam the chat when he was asked by The Staticaster to leave as well for his actions and then just flooded the chat log while he was able to.

If you need his IP at all for this, on server chat at 18:55:56 and 18:55:59 PM US Eastern would be him in main server chat.

This is a case of bullying, and friends being biased in favor of each other. While it was an overreaction to say I'd "show up on his porch..." it was in the context of everyone supporting his attempted cheating, and subsequent refusal to be reasonable. He simply didn't like that I caused him to discard, and behaved as if it was appropriate to cause as many problems as he could in response to that. When I asked him to simply use the random discard feature instead of turning his cards over and manually discarding, they all grouped up and attacked me, threatening to boot me from the game because I disagreed with his manual method (in light of him JUST attempting to cheat)

I don't appreciate that friends act like animals to strangers, and then portray the new guys as unreasonable and the only one at fault.

Billy, did Serios attempt to cheat? No. All you said was discard 5, he didn't see anything else nor read the card was random, so he didn't know. He then proceeded to take the cards he discarded out of grave and randomly discard. So his cheating as you call it was fixed, everyone saw it and tried to explain it to you. Everyone saw what he did, we discussed it publicly and we were all aside of you pleased with how he did it.

So, having proceeded to pick his cards back up and randomly discard, that should be it one would think. Everyone else in the room saw what Serios did and was pleased that he met the requirements of a random discard. it is for the simple fact you proceeded to spam the chat repeatedly saying thinking, MISE! and attack that really made it an annoyance from you. Combine that with threatening bodily harm and possibly life being taken, that is why this report is here. The fact you said SLIT SOMEONES THROAT is something you can NOT justify as simple anger. You didn't threaten to show up on his porch and punch him out, you didn't threaten to show up and beat him up, you threatened possible murder via cutting his throat.

IF Trevor doesn't ban you, do yourself a favor and please get some help for your anger issues. I understand getting mad, but you have taken things too far for alot of us and although we know you will probably change your name, do yourself and step away from the keyboard and take a deep breath. I understand internet drama, but this is taking it above and beyond that when you threaten possible murder whether or not you have the capability to carry it through is irrelevant in the long haul.

Serios knows MTG rules inside and out, knows how to read and knows the LackeyCCG interface. Mind twist is an iconic card, and he paused for a good while before trying to slip his cards into the discard without doing it randomly. He was attempting to bypass the worst effects of Mind Twist because he was angry for being forced to discard. It plainly says to discard at random, and he didn't. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Which is why when I called him out, he purposefully delayed, then refused to discard randomly - instead insisting on doing some odd manual discard that I was supposed to take on faith as actually random. No, of course I'm not going to agree to that. It's not normal, it's not necessary, and it light of his suspicious behavior it's not intelligent.

Your rhetoric about an internet threat is as unconvincing as it is pathetic. People say mean things all the time on the internet that they don't intend. But not everyone acts like a gang of thugs to people they don't know. You and your friends did just that, and deserve more than a slap on the wrist. You're deluded enough to believe you are correct, when in fact you represent the worst aspects of friendship bias, and the lies they tell to justify it.

Let's stop focusing on words and start paying attention to actions - when friends gang up on new players and try to turn everything against one person, they tear apart the little bit of community this card game builds.

Alot of us who use lackey are grown up enough to handle things. Some people we may not get to like, while others we might straight up hate. insults get thrown around, sure. I admit I get hate at times more than most, but I deal with it instead of coming here usually. However, one thing I dont take is when someone has to go and sink to a low level of personal insults that truly are 100% classless.

StAislez and myself have never really gotten along, and I dont enter rooms he is hosting, and usually he wont enter any I am either. Today, we wound up in a room hoasted by someone else, I pointed out a mistake that was made and he decided to have to take a go at me before he left. If someone wants to call me an ahole, a douche, whatever, so be it. I have dealt with it many a times on here. However, I will NOT stand for him calling me a pedophile. I dont care who you are, you do NOT get away with referring to someone as a child molester.

Hey trevor its me again
at 17:44:22 i asked Incz to leave my game becuase I didnt want to play him. As a person who was hosting the game I assume I have that right. He refused to leave and then after I disconnected from the game he followed me to the other games I created. Eventually he told me to make a game with a password on it and i started to ignore him.

Had an issue with an ignore dodger today. Went by the name JimFromTheOffice. We played. After our match I started a new lobby. He joined it and wanted to play again. I declined and started a new lobby and ignored him. (I've had too many bad experiences with people who you don't want to play following you around, so I just preemptively ignore in those situations.)

He changed his name to Black and somehow joined my lobby. I knew it was him instantly. I told him that changing his name wasn't going to work and remade the lobby again. He changed his name to Azariel and started his own lobby. I asked in server chat how many times he had to change his name daily. This caused him to change his name AGAIN to ManyFaceGod and spam harassment at me via whispering about how I was a sore loser.

I was under the impression that changing your name to avoid ignores and harass people was bannable.
