Program crashing (0xc0000005)

My program is crashing with exception code 0xc0000005 when I switch from the standard plugin (war3000) to the magic plugin.

If I try to start LackeyCCG after having switched to the magic plugin, the program will instantly crash with the same exception without even giving an error window, the only way I can see that it even tried to execute is by checking the application error logs.

I'm using the version currently supplied at http://www.lackeyccg.com/downloads.html, last updated Jul 13 02:44.

I have tried another plugin (wow) without it crashing so I suspect the problem is related to the magic plugin.

can you send me your plugin's pluginpreferences.txt file as well as your Preferences.txt file?
What autoudpate URL are you using for the magic plugin?
Also, are you loading the plugin with the plugin browser, and then choosing one? Or another way?
Does the program crash exactly at that point after you click the "choose" button?
And does it ALWAYS crash when you follow this sequence of events, or only some times?

Aiadan

For magic I have tested both http://www.siegescg.com/magicthegathering/high/updatelist.txt and http://www.siegescg.com/magicthegathering/medium/updatelist.txt found on http://www.angelfire.com/funky/magiclackey/, both giving crashing plugins.

I am loading the plugin by browsing plugins in the plugin tab, selecting magic and pressing choose.

After I press choose, it takes a second or two and then I get a popup that the program has stopped responding, if I debug it, it shows the aforementioned exception (0xc0000005: Access Violation).

It will crash without fail 100% of the times I've tested, as well as crashing on startup for as long as I have magic selected as the plugin, if I delete the preferences file the program will start again with the war3000 plugin, allowing me to select another plugin. If I select magic again, the program will crash again.

Update:

Now it works. I have not rebooted the computer since the last time it did not work, the only thing that has changed is installing a new game (Sanctum 2), which feels slightly unrelated, but changing plugin to magic now works fine, including starting the program with it selected.

Alastair

It could've been a system file that got installed or updated along with the new game. DirectX, .Net, etc... Not totally familiar with what all Sanctum 2 uses, so couldn't say for sure but that'd be my guess.

So even if you used those old 2 preference files, moving them both back while lackey isn't running and then relaunching it, it still works?

Do you have any way to revert to a system back up prior to any installation of that new game, to see if that makes the problem reappear? I guess you can't do this, but if you could it could tell me if this was related to the crash.

Correct, using the files that I uploaded, which previously crashed the program on launch, now works fine.

I don't think there's really anything else I can do to restore my computer to the exact state it was before.

In that case I think Alastair was probably right. Unfortunately, there's no way for me to tell exactly what the issue was now so I can't help someone when the same thing happens to them.

I am actually having the same problem. I will try and attach the documents that you requested.

Well, if you are indeed having the same problem (and not just a similar result) as the OP, then try incrementally updating DirectX, .Net, opegl, etc. and after each one, see if Lackey runs. If you can tell me which one does the trick, I should be able to make some changes and make other people not need to do that.

I have upgraded each that i can find and I have had no results. The only way that I have been able to open lackey is to re-unpack the zip folder. I am running Windows 8, but have tried every compatibility format that I know has worked in the past.

I have similar problem. It's easy to replicate.

Latest version of Lackey (Build date: 07-13-13) is freshly installed. I can run it without any problems. Then I install VTES plugin using URL:

http://www.lackeyccg.com/vtes/medium/updatelist.txt
http://www.lackeyccg.com/vtes/high/updatelist.txt
(Tested with both versions).

After switching to VTES plugin - Lackey crashes. After that - it crashes every time I try to run it.
I noticed that replacing LackeyCCG.exe file with version from build 06-26-13 solves the problem, but I can't connect to game server using older version. I use computer with Windows XP.

Thanks. While I haven't been able to replicate this on my mac, I will test it on windows.

The same thing is happening to me however I have downloaded a few other plugins and found they work fine on my Windows 8. The Magic plugin must be changing something in the LackeyCCG program cause it won't even load after I try to run the Magic plugin after a successful download. I have a feeling that Magic just got too big for LackeyCCG to handle.
