Does a japanese pokemon plugin already exist somewhere?
I couldn't find it myself.

If not...
I am planning on making a plugin for a few of the early japanese exclusive pokemon sets.
(Anything before "Gen 3".)

Specifically:
The "Vending Machine" and Versus sets.

I'll also try to find the early J-Promos...
Like the "Intro Video" mini-set.

Bulbepedia has quality card images & translations.
So I will just be assembling the pieces.

Would there be any interest in this plugin being uploaded when complete?

Thanks~ :)

(Edited for clarity.)

Howdy,

I don't play Pokemon myself, but if you need assistance creating your plugin let me know.
If you check in the forums, I believe there is already a Pokemon plugin, but I am not sure if it has your Japanese sets.

Thank!

DandelionPuffs

Thanks. I'll be sure to message you if I run into any roadblocks. :)

It is possible I have my settings wrong and only downloading the english set -- but there appears to be no Japanese cards whatsoever.

Ultimately this is just for fun.
These japanese cards are new to me-- but very retro.
It's a unique kind of nostalgia! Haha.

StarcatProducts

Sure thing, PM if you need help.
Just have fun, learn a bit about lackey while you are at it. :)

Snoops

Hi, I can confirm there are no Japanese cards in the current Pokemon plugin. It's a good idea to name your plugin something different though to avoid conflicts with people playing, maybe pokemon_jap or something? Anyways, good luck! :)

DandelionPuffs

Alright--
So I think I misunderstood what a "plugin" was exactly.

My goal was to ADD the J-cards to the existing plugin for use with my friends.
Like a custom set?

I was able to do so by following the instructions at the bottom of this thread:
http://www.lackeyccg.com/forum/index.php?topic=1656.0

By pressing ~ you can even read the cards while playing.
By the end of the week I should have this completed. :)

My only question now is-- How can I best share this "custom set" with you good people?
Snoops you mentioned the labels being important...
Are these labels okay?

The sets included would be as follows:

JVM1, JVM2, JVM3
Japanese "Vending Machine" Series 1-3 (Officially named, "Blue" "Red" and "Green")
https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Vending_Machine_cards_(TCG)

JVS
Pokemon Versus
https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_VS_(TCG)

JUP
Japanese Unnumbered Promos (That didn't see western release.)
https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Unnumbered_Promotional_cards_(TCG)/1996-2005

Additionally I wanted to include some "Illegal" cards-- I assume there is no interest at all in these?
I also don't know where to mark them as "Illegal".

WUP
Western Unnumbered Promos
Just a few cards like "Ancient Mew" and "Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos"

GB
Cards from the GBC games that didn't get promo release.
I'd use Imp Elemental's template for MSE.

Thanks for reading!
I hope to share these novelty sets soon. :)

The way to identify sets like these is to create formats. By selecting a format in the deck editor, the player sees only the cards that match the criteria. The tutorial explains how to define them.

DandelionPuffs

Hey thanks! Making it its own format makes sense. :)

I would've posted the set images and carddata.txt already but there is quite a few mistakes.

For example: Every instance of the "?" in pokemon was removed and needs to be find/replaced.

I also didn't notice until I had finished that the notation for Fire energy was [R] not [F]... Haha.

It's good enough for me at the moment but Intend on fixing the errors before I upload it. :P

I have to do a mini-write up on the promos and omissions which will take a little while. I'm working on that now.

The next post should have the upload. :)

Very late update:
This project is essentially abandoned.
My friends' nostalgia wore off more quickly than I had anticipated.

However I recieved a request for it-- and decided to upload what was finished.
(Card Images & Data)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/2h8q0o3p1se526p/Japanese%20Exclusives.zip?dl=0

Whats Inside?

"JVM" Japanese Vending Machine
(1-3)

"JIV" Japanese Intro Video
(B-Bulbasaur Half-Deck)
(S-Squirtle Half-Deck)

To my understanding, these cards would have been competitively LEGAL at the time (in Japan).

These would be played in either 1st or 2nd era format.
(Making the 2nd era huge.)

These should represent NEARLY all Japanese exclusive cards before Gen 3.

Whats Missing?

"JUP" Japanese Un-numbered Promos

There are 25ish LEGAL promos I wanted to include but never got around to.
(This would have been EVERY legal J-Exclusive.)

"GB" & Misc. Illegal cards

I was gunna add these "illegal" cards for novelty and casual play.

Cards like Ancient Mew and the Gameboy Color cards!
I didn't finish this either. :(

Japanese "Versus" Set
This set was an early gen 3, and just outside the intended scope.
Wizards of the coast stopped making the cards at this point

Errors

This isn't a proper "plugin" with an updatelist and stuff.

Card images might be lossy.
(If so, you can find em on bulbepedia.)

I think there is only a single missing card image.
Venomoth.
(It was reprinted in the hideous E-reader format and I couldn't find the base format image.)

A few card images are sized wrong.
(JIV Spearow)
The quality of some images is poor.
(JVM Nidoran M)
Borders aren't cropped.

Several cards are "missing" or images because they were later reprinted in English as Promos and such.
(It is inconvenient, but every missing card/image SHOULD be in the base plugin.
I had intended to omit these and make a complete list.)

Most instances of the accented "?" are missing.

The Fire & Fighting energy costs both appear in text as "[F]"
(This is easily ignored but messes up the search.)

Note

Finally, the sets are unumbered.
This wouldn't be a problem but there are 2 gravelers and haunters or something in one set.
I numbered the JVM set for this reason.

These cards came in sheets from...
Vending machines! (Suprise)

These sheets were numbered.

So the card # is from earliest sheet.
Then from right to left, descending.

(Edit: Fileszise to big- made a link. Clarity edits.)
